THE CREDITS
Frame.io V4 Rebuild
Frame.io V4 was a ground-up rebuild of Frame.io, where creative teams review video. I joined the small core team a few months in, while the foundation was going in, and stayed through years of production growth.

THE FILMS
THE CHALLENGE
V4 had to replace the product people used every day without losing what made it work. A review tool plays video, pins every comment to an exact frame and keeps everyone looking at the same thing, and the foundation had to hold dozens of engineers.
THE APPROACH
- Foundation. The component library, app shell, routes and GraphQL data layer, then the media viewer with the wider team.
- Comments. The original comment interface: reactions and their animation, emoji shortcodes, read and edited states, filtering and search.
- Components and design system. Most of my work is in the shared components every feature is built from, and in the move to the Vapor design system.
- The product around the player. Accounts, settings, navigation, uploads and the share grid, plus nested folders and collections that sort by metadata.
- Quality and reach. Accessibility, end-to-end tests and internationalization.
THE OUTCOME
V4 replaced V3 as Frame.io’s production platform. The components and conventions we set early are still what it’s built on.
